OctoberWait and Receive. Acts chapter 1 and 2.

Before going up to Heaven Jesus gave his followers a pretty huge task of being witnesses and teachers of His ways all over the world. But his last commandment was “wait” (Acts 1:4). And they did. Imagine if they didn’t if they tried to spread God’s name in their own strength and eventually their own agenda? We have seen that happen in the world! Peter’s sermon in Acts 2 is astounding. Before he was always saying the wrong thing motivated by fear or pride. Then suddenly he does a mic drop speech that changes the hearts of thousands of people! Sometimes I wish my life would change that dramatically or that I would have influence over thousands. I think that is partly why I bulked up my Facebook friends list but then became obsessed and had to let it go. I am waiting to find out if one of my poems gets published. Today plans to be interviewed on a mental health podcast were postponed. Waiting. Waiting and doing what the Spirit calls and empowers me to do. Which right now is mostly caring for a little one. Maybe it is not as glamorous as some of my ambitions. But if I slow down and look closely it is wondrous just the same and a work of the same loving Spirit.

“Unless the LORD builds the house, They labor in vain who build it; Unless the LORD guards the city, The watchman keeps awake in vain. It is vain for you to rise early, To retire late, To eat the bread of anxious labors— For He gives [blessings] to His beloved even in his sleep. Behold, children are a heritage and gift from the LORD, The fruit of the womb a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one’s youth.”

November- Welcome Holy Spirit

Acts 3-4

Welcome Holy Spirit into my life, my heart, my home and nation. Thank you that you heal the lame and they dance for joy.

When there is resistance in my heart or from others let this be my prayer:

“When they heard this, they raised their voices together in prayer to God. “Sovereign Lord,” they said, “you made the heavens and the earth and the sea, and everything in them. You spoke by the Holy Spirit through the mouth of your servant, our father David: “ ‘Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth rise up and the rulers band together against the Lord and against his anointed one. ’ Indeed Herod and Pontius Pilate met together with the Gentiles and the people of Israel in this city to conspire against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed. They did what your power and will had decided beforehand should happen. Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness. Stretch out your hand to heal and perform signs and wonders through the name of your holy servant Jesus.” After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.”

We are now studying Hebrews and I think that anything I could say, my brother could say it better in his sermon:
